Summary: Most comfortable mask but only lasts about 3 months
Comment: I have found this to be the most comfortable mask out there. The main competitor to this mask are the various resmed mirage masks: Micro, Activa, and the plain regular. I found the gel mask is much softer on the face than the silicone cushions used in the mirage series.

My only complaint is that the mask does not have a very long life. After about 3 months, the gel starts to get mushy and you get more air leaks -- causing you to wake up frequently and have to readjust the mask.

In terms of price -- this is definitely a pretty good value relative to a lot of other types of masks. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend having an emergency backup mask. (this goes for any brand) The plastic on all masks tend to be brittle and snap easily. And of course -- when it breaks -- it tends to be as you are putting your mask on to go to sleep. This is not the type of thing that you can run out and buy in the middle of the night.

If you can't afford to have a new mask waiting in reserve, keep one of your retired masks handy so that you can at least get through the night.

Summary: Good Comfort-but doesn't last
Comment: Started leaking after about 4 months-soft, comfortable and quiet enough but looking for one that holds up better. I would like to know how some get a year out of them.

Summary: Comfortable enough, but easy to break
Comment: I have used this mask for over a year. I found it reasonably comfortable--once I got used to it. It's much better than those awful nasal pillows.

These masks seem to wear out after 3-5 months. The straps seem to stretch out, and the gel cushion and silicon don't seal nearly as well. I know it's time to get a new one when I start getting roused by obnoxious little farting noises and jets of air blowing into my eyeballs. It's often bad enough to wake up my wife.

As another reviewer noted, this mask has a weakness. On the bottom corners of the mask are two little sockets where you clip in the lower straps. This is actually a nice design in function, because the sockets allow the mask to fit better.

But the sockets aren't very strong, and can easily be broken if you try to pull the mask off quickly. I broke two of these in the space of a month, and it's futile to glue them back together. You need a new mask, and that's a big expense. The manufacturer needs to beef up this area.

I don't discard my old masks when they wear out. I clean them well, and keep them in case I break a new mask. Then I can transfer the parts onto the old mask and keep going. I also try to order new masks as frequently as my insurance will allow, even if my old one isn't quite done. Believe me, if you've learned to depend on C-PAP you do NOT want to be without a working mask.

One last bit of advice--clean your mask and C-PAP machine regularly per manufacturer's recommendations. You do not want to get an infection! And remember to change your filters!

Update, Oct. 14, 2008--Careful as I have been, all four of my Comfortgel masks have now broken in the same way as I described above. On some of the masks, the unbroken socket also shows signs of stress and cracking.

When I went to my supplier to purchase another mask, she said many customers have the same problem. This is a comfortable mask, but the design just isn't durable!!!

Summary: Too fragile a design
Comment: I liked the price in comparison with other masks I've owned, but it only lasted a month until it broke. The notched angle adjustment for the forehead pad is a good idea, but one of its plastic tabs broke off, failing the entire mask.
