Customer Rating: Summary: Review of Slant Fin Humidifier Comment: I've have a SlantFin for several years and appreciate its features. It provides the humidity required for my bedroom and must be refilled daily to top off its two gal. capacity. I wasn't getting enough moisture in the air in my living room, so when I saw the unit advertised, very reasonably, I ordered another. I clean it out once a week with some white vinegar while the unit is still warm and put it right back into service. It does make a definite difference in reducing heating costs as the 40% or higher level of water vapor in the air feels less chilly. You can't be lazy about the maintenance. It does need attention, but it works well.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Secret to stopping the gurgling sound Comment: We bought two of these humidifiers after buy several cheaper ones and having all the problems already written here about cheap humidifiers, and cold moist humidifiers.
These Slant/Fins are the best and have ended all of our kids nighttime coughing, cut way down on respiratory problems during the winter, don't use much electricity, and are really easy to operate.
Pads can be cleaned under very hot water for a few minutes and then reused.
The boiling unit we just soak in vinegar for a day every couple of weeks and it's like new. Someone on her wrote about cleaning every day but I'm far too absent-minded for that!
We bleach the tanks every month or so.
One of our humidifiers makes the gurgling sound others have whined about. But our other unit is whisper quiet. I've tried to figure out why the difference and recently discovered the difference. Water consumption is the same for both units so that is not the difference. I took each apart and realized that we'd misplaced the cone the twists into place over the boiling water and concentrates the steam. So I took the cone out of the gurgling unit and voila! We now have TWO whisper quiet humidifiers. Being cone-less doesn't seem to be causing any problems.
Good luck!
Customer Rating: Summary: Very pleased so far Comment: I bought 2 of these humidifiers based on the recommendation of my son's pediatric ENT. I have 1 in the baby's room, and 1 in my 3 year old's room, who has asthma.
Warm mist humidifiers can be difficult to find in the stores, so I was willing to pay for shipping for a well priced humidifier online. I also really like the uv light for extra protection.
These humidifiers do an excellent job. I originally had them set to high and it was like walking into a steam room, so now they are on medium. I am thinking of replacing the Bionnaire humidifier I have in my bedroom with another of these because the Bionaire doesn't work as well. I also like how there are 2 tanks - they last longer and are easier to fill.
We have very hard well water with lots of sediment, and so far the little mineral absorption pad has been working well. The Bionnaire I had in my son's room last year broke because it got so coroded and the plunger broke off. I fully admit that I did not clean it as frequently as I should - it's hard when you are running the thing every day.
My only cons are that I wish it had a gage to measure humidity, and I wish it would automatically turn off when the water is all used up.
The heating mechanism and fan make some noise, but the white noise is good for the baby, and it's not any louder than any other warm mist humidifier I've used, and I've used a lot.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best on the market Comment: We bought two of these humidifiers last year for our kids' bedrooms and are buying another for ours. We love them! After reading some of the reviews left by others, I decided to add my own as well.
For those who think this is loud, it is quieter than ANY and EVERY humidifier we have ever owned. The sound is different though, it is more like a pot gently simmering rather than the loud whoosh of air that most humidifiers make, I think it is very soothing.
It also has a generous output, more than most other humidifiers we have tried. It will go through the two gallon tanks in about 24 hours. A single unit won't humidify your whole house, but easily a bedroom at a time. The tanks are easy to fill and have comfortable handles too. Not a big deal, but when you are filling them every day it's a nice plus.
Yes, the air coming out is hot, it's actually steam. I can't see this as a fixable 'problem' because the boiling is what makes the water anti-bacterial. It's great for families with allergy/mold issues as we are. They are also very soothing to sit over and breathe in when you have a cold etc. If you have little ones, just put the unit up higher, no biggie.
One of the nicest features is that it does not build up the slimy residue of other humidifiers. We clean ours occasionally, to change the filter pad etc., and they are never gross and yucky like our other ones. For this feature alone I would recommend this unit.
They also have a medicine cup that snaps on top. We love to put a few drops of essential oils in when we have colds, (tea tree, eucalyptus etc.) The steam heats and disperses the oils perfectly.
Overall, this humidifier is quiet, efficient, and easy to maintain. We've had ours a little over a year and have not had to replace any parts, UV bulb etc., are all working perfectly. I would recommend to anyone!
Customer Rating: Summary: not effective Comment: I purchased this humidifier because it was easier to clean and had germ protection. It is easy to clean but after using it for a full winter I haven't noticed an increase in humidity in our bedroom. I thought it would help with the dryness and to reduce nose bleeds but I've found no difference in the humidity between having it on or off.
