Customer Rating: Summary: HP DESKJET 5440 PRINTER Comment: THIS IS A GREAT LITTLE PRINTER. THE SHIPPING WAS FAST TOO! I AM VERY PLEASED
Customer Rating: Summary: Good but EXPENSIVE print Comment: The print quality is good but the printing cost is very expensive. After new cartridge installation, I can usually print out 30-40 papers. This means the printing cost is about $1 per print (one 92 + one 93 cartriges cost about $40). You might be able to use Kinko with better print quality and at less cost.
Customer Rating: Summary: Junk Comment: This thing eats ink cartridges like they're going out of style. You'll spend a small fortune buying replacements. I print documents with double-spaced text in Fast Normal mode. At most, I get 100 pages of printing per cartridge - at $20 bucks a pop. What a ripoff!
The reason, according to another one-star review, is that these particular cartridges contain only 5 ml of ink, compared to 42 ml in other cartridges. In other words, the cartridges for the 5440 are intentionally designed to run dry almost immediately.
I don't plan on buying another HP printer in the future. Too bad, because they used to make a good product - before they decided to pad their profits with overpriced, underfilled cartridges.
Customer Rating: Summary: Ink cartridge issue Comment: It worked very well until it would reject my ink cartriges half way through their use. It would all of a sudden say they were not the correct cartridge. This equated to a very high cost in ink so I just quit using it.
Customer Rating: Summary: pretty cool Comment: I got this printer for free when I bought my desktop two years ago and just barely started using it in the last 6 months.
I shouldn't have waited!
It was easy to install and easy to use. I have printed some beautiful photos out of it. I had to print three pages of collages for an adoption profile my husband and I made, and the pictures were small, but very detailed.
It's quick for normal black and white text documents, and a tolerable speed for photos. On regular paper, photos also print out crisp and clear. The noise is not excessive or even bothersome. And the printer doesn't take up much space, but I wish the bottom tray folded up like the top tray does, just for symmetry.
My other complaint is the speed at which this printer uses ink. I don't often use the printer, but I have already changed both the black and the color cartridges, and am a little over half way through that black cartridge. But about $15 for an HP 92 black cartridge (if you shop around) isn't too bad.
I have not used the port in front of the printer.
