Customer Rating: Summary: The legs are PC beige btw, not grey Comment: This is a nifty plastic monitor table that at its tallest lifts the base of your monitor exactly 5.5in. (14cm) off the desk. and the width of the space between the legs under the stand is 11 5/8ths in. (29.6cm) which luckily fits my hard mouse pad perfectly (cordless mouse). It's like it was made for it as it slides in and out with ease. Plus adding valuable desk space.
The table surface is 5/8ths an inch thick, lab-desk grey, very durable with a smooth finish and not plastic, maybe dense pressboard and secured to the legs by 4 flush mount screws. There is the kensington logo on it, but you can turn the whole thing around so the logo is in the back out of view, the table is symmetrical otherwise.
The legs are typical PC plastic, not as substantially made as the table but they are adequate. I have used one with 2 leg-extenders for years with an 80lb CRT with zero issues. You can make the whole thing wobble at maximum extension if you grab it and shake it hard, it may even creak at the big-lego style joints, but it wont break or topple or even move if you put the included rubber desk protector/grippers on the underside of the legs as instructed. Also, if you use 1 or no extenders, it won't shake at all.
This means you can't slide the thing around if you have a heavy display on it, the heavier the display the less chance you will be able to or want to move it. That is good for stability, which is key. It's hard to raise a heavy monitor higher securely, there are numerous other ways for LCDs (shameless plug:Ergotron) but not CRTs.
Could you somehow stack these, by adding extra extenders or just placing one on top of the other? Yes, but they aren't designed for it and even if you just wanted crafty storage space (hard mouse pad on its own floor) You would be risking odd centers of gravity. But it would look unique and if you spray painted the boring legs the same color as the table (and as the product picture depicts) it would look integrated.
Lastly kensington includes a weird rear-view mirror thingy you can attach to your monitor to help you determine your proper viewing height and of course the always fun hand-game to size your table height. A lot of thought for a simple stand!
Customer Rating: Summary: Kensington Monitor Stand Comment: Came on time. Very good product. Easy to put togther. Only thing I have to complain about is that you can see the fasterners from top of stands platform. Its coated black so its blends in a bit but would have been nice if they figured a way to put together and not have fasteners showing on top.
Customer Rating: Summary: solid top, legs could be better Comment: The top of the stand is solid and looks good. The "SmartFit" removable pieces on the legs are a nice way to customize the height, but also make the legs feel a little flimsy or shaky. Still it's a decent stand overall, and less tacky looking than a Fellowes stand I'd previously bought. As a side note I believe Amazon may have sent me an item that had been returned, because the top had some stratches on it.
