Summary: Compact laser printer: perfect for college students or those on a budget
Comment: I bought this Samsung printer to replace my college-age daughter's Brother laser printer to work with her MacBook. The Samsung's price, small size, and company reputation convinced me to get this, and I'm glad I did. The printer comes with two CDs, one for Windows Vista and one for non-specified OS, which definitely contains the drivers for Macs, OS X 10.3 and up. Windows ME/NT and several Linux OS (Red Hat 8-9, Fedora Core 1-3, Mandrake 9.2-10.1 and SuSE 8.2-9.2) are also supported. I was able to get the printer up-and-running on two different Macs, with different versions of OS X, within minutes.
A power cord, paper dust cover, and a laser toner cartridge are also included. Customers will have to purchase separately a USB-to-printer cable such as Belkin F3U133-06 Pro Series Hi-Speed USB Cable (Six-Feet) or use whatever they use now to hook up their computer. The speed is decent, up to 25 ppm, and the quality is typical monochrome laser. Although it is a little noisy on start up, this compact laser printer prints smoothly and relatively quietly once it gets going.
Don't expect heavy-duty construction. It weighs a lot less than most laser printers, and the price reflects it. Still, this creates a high-quality end product for those on a budget or with limited shelf space. Also look at Brother HL-2040 Monochrome Laser Printer

Summary: Not one of the best printers I've ever owned
Comment: I have owned this printer for about 6 months. 90 % of what I print out are blank crossword puzzles, with occasional text documents. The original cartridge ran out after printing 600 pages. It was supposed to last for about 1000 pages. One of the reasons for this is that you can only print "normal" or "best" quality. Other printers that I have owned would allow you to print using a "draft" quality. Perfect for puzzles or documents for casual personal use. The normal quality was very good, but uses too much toner. Considering the replacement cost for a toner cartridge, I would not recommend this printer. You can do better. By the way, when I did replace the toner I used a generic cartridge. It works ok, but the quality of the printing leaves a lot to be desired. So if you buy this printer, when the original toner runs out, you will probably have to spring for an expensive Samsung cartridge if your printing has to be of decent quality.

Cons: Makes the lights flicker in the rooms when printing. I'd keep this one turned off when not in use.

Summary: Most reliable, Durable, Long Lasting Printer on the market
Comment: After years of toiling with the inkjets, I switched to laser about 3 years ago, and this is the printer I bought. It prints only in black and white, but I had to ask myself, when do I actually need color prints? That's right, I never do and I never did, so for a person who just needs prints, then black and white should be more than auspicious.
For instance, I like to print off webpages of information that I find useful, directions from google maps plus more directions, and loads and loads and loads of resumes. So basically I bought this printer to print a lot, and I mean a lot of prints. I put this Samsung through the ringer, let me tell you. For 3 years now, I have had not one problem, not one. This prints very very high quality black and white prints and it can do so in bursts or bits. I mean for a job that a professional mammoth printer/copier would be needed for, this has handled conciliatory perfect. I would recommend this to the college student, the mom, the kid, and the whole family. There isn't one person I couldn't recommend this too. Yes, the replaceable laser cartridge costs around 75 dollars to replace, but you knew that before you bought a laser didn't you? For a rough estimate, I printed day in and day out for about a year and half before the cartridge needed replacing.
