Summary: Singing Scrooge
Comment: I love this version because it is a musical, even Albert Finney manages to croak out a decent melody!I saw this first in the movie theatre with my parents and then grew up watching this over the years. It was along with An American Christmas Carol, my favorite version. I had it for many years on VHS and replaced it with DVD this year. A must see for dark humor and great music!

Summary: Scrooge never looked so good.
Comment: After years of watching Albert Finney on VHS and "Formatted to fit my screen," the wide-screen DVD version was exciting. This is the best version of "A Christmas Carol" ever made. Highly recommended.

Summary: Scrooge the Musical
Comment: One day I skipped my classes in high school and went along on a field trip with some other part of the school to see this version of Scrooge. This was back in the early '70's. Although the other kids were not all that impressed, I fell in love with this movie. Even the music has stayed with me all these years. It's a Scrooge version that they NEVER show on television. And I think it's got everything that the other Scrooge movies do, and much more.... I always get choked up at the end as Scrooge (Albert Finney) has his epiphany and gets his freak on with the whole Christmas thing.. It's the only Scrooge movie I care about....

Summary: Real classic christmas movie
Comment: It's a family tradition to watch this movie on christmas eve since we have our first daughter born on 1984..up to now..it sure brings a lot of good memories..

Albert Finney's one of the finest actors of all times..

Editorial Reviews:

A mixed bag as variations on A Christmas Carol go, this 1970 British musical tells the usual story of Scrooge (Albert Finney) and his spirits on Christmas Eve, although the whole thing is set to music by Leslie Bricusse. Except for Finney's feisty and involved performance, however, there isn't much to recommend this. The songs, which absorb so much of the evolving story line and emotions, are not all that good. Plenty of support, however, from the likes of Roy Kinnear (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) and Dame Edith Evans (Tom Jones), the handsome production is directed by veteran Ronald Neame (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie). --Tom Keogh
